Visit Solin

If you are planning a trip to the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia, then a stop in Solin is the perfect opportunity to explore history. The Romans established the city of Salona here, which is just 5km from Split. It has been formed into an extensive archeological park that offers an extensive set of ruins that testify to the wealth and importance of this Roman colony.

There are numerous structures to explore, including a 2^nd century amphitheater that consisted of three floors and a covered area to protect the space from the elements. What was unique about this particular amphitheater is that it was integrated into the defensive fortifications of the city.

Then make your way through Caesar’s Gate, marking the change from the older Roman city to the newer extensions that began in the late first century. The remains of an aqueduct, city streets, and other buildings continue to stand tall.

The ruins in Solin contain public paths, an oratory, a bishop’s palace, and an extensive necropolis.
