Exploring Brasov

If you’re planning to see all that Romania can offer, the Brasov is the place you’ll want to be. Not only does it offer some fantastic exploration opportunities, but its central location makes it possible to visit other areas of the country with relative ease.

The narrowest street in Romania can be found in Brasov. Called “Strada Sforii,” or String Street, it was originally built as a way for firefighters to access buildings quickly. The street itself is about 80 meters long, but only 135 centimeters wide.

A visit to Catherine’s Gate is also a wonderful experience. It’s the only original city gate that has survived from the fortification days. It was built in 1559 to replace a gate that had been destroyed by flooding a generation before. It’s unique small corner turrets signify the town had judicial autonomy and the authority to decide on capital punishment.

Many make their way over to Bran Castle as well, which attracts those who love a good vampire story. Some believe that it was once home to Vlad the Impaler, though this is not the case.

If you love a good museum tour, then consider the First Romanian School. It offers a look at many Romanian “firsts,” including the first printing press that was used in the country.

Brasov is a good place to create a base of operations. It’s also a wonderful destination in its own right. If you want to experience the best of what Romania can offer, then this city must be on your list of potential destinations.
