Poznan (German: Posen) is situated on the Warta River, the colors of Poznan are vibrant and alive. It is an important cultural center for Poland, especially with its status as one of the nation’s oldest cities. The Renaissance flavors of the Old Town will create a craving that will have you keep coming back for more.
Although most of the landmarks and historic buildings are centered around the Old Town and one could spend an entire holiday exploring that area, there is much to see outside of that district. The Imperial Castle, for example, has been turned into a theatrical institution that has an impressive set of gardens that make for the perfect stroll.
Malta is another popular place to be in Poznan. There is an artificial lake in the center of this park and along one of the banks is a ski and sledding slope. You’ll also find a complex of swimming pools to enjoy, including one that is constructed to Olympic dimensions.
Music events are held in Poznan on a regular basis as well. The Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, held just once every 5 years, is a reason to plan a holiday in Poznan when the event cycles around. Concerts by the philharmonic orchestra are held monthly and the Poznan Nightingales put on an amazing show that should not be missed.
From the cobblestone pathways of the Old Town to the modern amenities that you may need to relax, Poznan has something for everyone. Discover what is waiting for you here today.

Best of Poznan
Poznan isn’t the largest city in Poland, nor is it one of the more popular cities for tourists to visit, but that just means people can get a truly authentic Polish experience when visiting. Poznan hosts many international trade fairs every year and is a bustling city of commerce and development. As Christianity began to take over Poland in the late 10th century, Poznan was built to become an integral part of the missionary activity within the country.
During World War II, Poznan residents were often sent to concentration camps or used as forced labor, even though most of them weren’t Jewish. Why should people go visit Poznan? Because you’ll get a glimpse of authentic Polish culture that you just can’t get anywhere else.
Everyone Should See Old Market Square
This cobblestoned plaza truly provides Poznan with its heartbeat, and you can see this in the thousands of people that traverse the square every day. There are plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops to keep everyone happy, full, and busy during the day. Have your meal outside under an umbrella as you gaze at sculptures or the surrounding architecture. Sip some coffee with a friend or loved one and simply enjoy the day as it can seem like you’re alone, even if you’re surrounded by others. Make sure you wait to see the goats at noon listen to the trumpeter!
Experience the Cathedral of St. Peter & St. Paul
Whether you agree with Christianity or not, the city of Poznan was founded on the principles of Christianization missionary work. This history is communicated through the Cathedral of St. Peter & St. Paul, which is Gothic in architecture and dates all the way back to 983, though much of the construction has actually occurred after World War II. It is a minor basilica and has plenty of icons upon which you can set your gaze. Much of the Polish royalty over the last millennium has been buried on the cathedral’s grounds. In the basement, you can even see the foundation of the old walls of Poznan.
Ski Any Time of Year At Malta Ski
Sometimes you’ve got to just do something fun, and that’s what you can do when you go to Malta Ski. Designed for “snowless” skiing, you can rent a set of skis or a snowboard on site and head down the constructed hill – in full safety gear, of course! For those who don’t necessarily like to ski or snowboard, there is a bobsled run to try out as well. Priced competitively and with lifts to take you up to the top of the hill after a run down it, you can have the fun you need on your vacation getaway right here.
Are You Ready to Visit Poznan?
One could say that modern Poland was founded by the efforts that were taken at Poznan. History emanates from within the city and can be felt in virtually everything you see and do. With plenty more to see and the modern amenities you need to make a visit relaxing and memorable, the city has everything you need for the perfect trip. Why should people go to visit Poznan? Because it is the place where one can truly experience what Poland has to offer the world.
