Visit Nancy

Nancy is one of those communities in France that the average person may not have heard of yet, but they will in the near future. It’s the old capital of the Duchy of Lorraine and the original fortified town was built around the middle of the 11th century. The Pope was visited Nancy and there have been a number of battles for this community over the centuries, but one thing has always been consistent: a level of consistency in every experience provided. The Place Stanislas has a number of World Heritage buildings, but that’s only one stop on your journey through this wonderful community. Grab a coffee, sit back, and discover what else you could enjoy if you find that life’s journey has taken you here.

Refinement Defines the Nancy Experience

Everywhere you turn in Nancy, there is a sense of refinement that has been seemingly perfected. There are Art Nouveaux influences everywhere and that is never more evident that the Musee de Beaux-Arts. There are some fantastic glass creations on display in this museum by Daum and the collection of paintings encompasses the modern to the 14th century. If you love some variation with your art and don’t mind a little wandering, then this is the museum for you!

There’s also a certain whimsy that can be seen throughout Nancy and the best evidence of this is the Villa Majorelle. This home was designed and built by Henri Sauvage and is the true jewel of the Art Nouveaux movement in this community. It belongs to the Ecole de Nancy Museum and can be visited only on the weekends. The details inside are incredible and even a glimpse of the outside is enough to make someone smile.

The Lorrain Museum is also one of the top places to visit in Nancy and was once home to the Dukes of Lorraine. The popular traditions of the region are on display here and the history and art emphasis also increases the popularity of the museum. The palace was built in the 15th century and has been a museum since 1848. A rare collection of Jewish ritual artifacts is also on display in the museum.

Refinement Touches the Culinary Scene in Nancy As Well

If you love the idea of Tuscany, but would rather enjoy the Art Nouveaux movement that Nancy does so well, then the combination is fused beautifully together with a table at Chez Tony. It’s a gourmet experience that won’t provide you with those small plates that will leave you hungry. Order the antipasti and you will be impressed with the generous portions? The garden chairs provide a colorful experience!

You’ll get a very different, yet still highly refined experience at Le V-Four, one of Nancy’s best kept secrets. There’s only a handful of tables at this tiny bistro that sits just a block off of the Parc de la Pepiniere. Crisp tablecloths are the perfect setting for a confit with wasabi cream and grilled scallops. The price is a little high on the dinner menu, but the investment is well worth the experience!
