Visit Metz

You can find Metz in the northeastern part of France right where the Seille and the Moselle come together. It’s near the triple border of Germany and Luxembourg as well, which means it has a number of cultural influences that gather within the city borders every day. Metz itself has a documented history that stretches back over 3,000 years, having been part of the Celts and Romans dynasties.

It’s also considered the birthplace of the Carolingian dynasty and the Gregorian chant is believed to have originated there as well. There are a number of fascinating opportunities to explore in this community during your visit. What could you discover during your stay in Metz? Here are some ideas for you to consider!

One of the Largest Museums Outside of Paris Is In Metz

If you love a good museum, and who doesn’t when it’s truly great, then you’ll enjoy spending some time lingering around the Pompidou-Metz Center. This is a museum that features contemporary and modern art and provides that largest area for temporary exhibitions outside of Paris. It has one of the largest collections of 20th century art in Europe and there is usually a new exhibit to see every quarter. There are also live shows in the theater and regular one-on-one opportunities to meet with artists.

If you love a little religion with your art, then Saint Stephen’s Cathedral is the next place you’ll want to be. There’s a collection of the paraments and items used in the service of the Eucharist on display in the Bishopric collection. The Cathedral, which has the nickname of being the “Lord’s Lantern,” earns this reputation thanks to the over 70,000 square feet of stained glass that have been installed in the building. It also has one of the largest naves in the world.

If you love some antiquity with your art, then the FRAC Lorraine is the public collection you’ll want to see. The focus is on contemporary art from the region, but it is located in the Saint Liver Hotel, which is a 12th century masterpiece.

Gracefulness Is the Hallmark of the Metz Experience

One of the most coveted pieces of real estate in Metz isn’t at a Medieval cathedral or around an ancient work of art. It is instead a table at Thierry, which is in a 16th century town house. The flavors that are served come from Morocco and the cuisine is perfectly spiced. There’s a certain Bohemian flair to the interior as well, only fitting considering where Metz sits in France.
