As part of the Dalmatian Coast, Makarska offers visitors a sunny climate, isolated beaches, and plenty of access to the benefits that only the Adriatic Sea can provide. It’s just a short drive from Split and Dubrovnik, so it can be added to an itinerary or serve as the foundation for your next holiday.
When visiting Makarska, you’ll find yourself naturally attracted to the beach. Found along a natural cove, the waters are naturally gentle and the sands are clean and warm. Some amenities are provided, but you may wish to bring your own for the greatest amount of comfort. Be sure to take the time to explore the palm-lined promenade, filled with cafés and boutiques, as you overlook the harbor.
Makarska is renowned for its dazzling beaches and calm seas. The picturesque Mount Biokovo protects the resort from cooler inland weather and the islands of Hvac and Brac harbour its tranquil sea, so its serene beaches are perfect for warming basks on the shore and cooling dips in still, turquoise water. With 60 kilometres of coastline, the Makarska Riviera has plenty of beaches for you to stretch yourself out on. Kick back on the beach at Makarska, head up the coast to Nikolina for an idyllic white pebble beach complete with a prestigious Blue Flag environmental rating, or head to Punta Rata near Brela, a tourist favourite with shallow waters and plenty of facilities.
What is so nice about a visit to Makarska is that it maintains its charm of the past. The streets are still narrow and paved with stones. You’ll find a small market selling fruit and flowers outside in the main church square. If you visit the Franciscan monastery, you can view a collection of local sea shells that have been combed from the beach, including monstrous clam shell. Additional tours of St. Mark’s Cathedral, St. Philip’s Church, the Baroque Ivanisevic Palace, and Villa Tonolli for the Town Museum, are worth the investment.
Beautiful Makarska should not be missed. As one of the warmest cities in Croatia, you’ll find that almost any time of year is the perfect time to get away from the world so you can begin a personalized rejuvenation process.
