North west of Dubrovnik is the island of Lopud. Viewed by many as the most beautiful of the Elafiti Islands, this tranquil haven offers a great destination for anybody really looking to get away from it all.
You’ll be able to enjoy some great beaches during your holiday, many of which provide scenic views of the other islands in the Elafiti archipelago. However, that’s not all this hidden gem of a destination has to offer! Families, couples and young adventurers alike will find themselves mesmerized by the island’s rich natural beauty, exquisite architecture, and calmly colourful village life. Gruz Harbour used to be a stopping point for sailors and is the best place to start discovering Lopud’s history, followed by a walk in search of its beautiful ruined churches and monasteries, or the stunning Old Fort that looks out over the sea.
Perhaps the most spectacular beach can be found at Sunj Bay. The narrow entrance to the bay acts as a kind of natural harbour, maintaining a gentle tide. The seabed also shelves very gently, making this an ideal place to come with young children. The soft white sand offers a great place to sunbathe, and you’ll be able to find a number of refreshment stalls along the beachfront.
Later on in the evening, the beachfront area lights up with a row of charming little cafés, bars and restaurants. You’ll even be able to dine al fresco during the summer months, sampling fine examples of local Croatian cuisine – as well as freshly prepared seafood – as you enjoy the picturesque sea view!
