Visit Lisbon

For those who have never visited Portugal before, Lisbon is an excellent option to choose as a destination. Not only do you get to embrace the urban culture of the city and nation, but you also have day trip access to the beach resorts and other coastal opportunities that are available. Its warm winters also make it the perfect destination all year long.

The city is rich in varying architectural styles. You’ll find everything from Romanesque and Gothic to Baroque and Post-modern available to see. A walking tour of the city to see these style variations and the monuments, such as what you’ll find in Marquis of Pombal Square, is a memorable experience.

Jump on 28

Wander around the old medieval ruins, indulge on traditional delights like pastel de nata (custard tart), relax with a coffee in the 1930s-style cafes and dance the night away in Lisbon’s favourite bars and clubs. And don’t forget those iconic yellow trams! In particular Tram 28 is the best – and most authentic – way to see all the city has to offer.

While visiting Lisbon, you will want to add the Belem Tower to your itinerary. It is one of the most popular landmarks that Portugal offer with its water-side location and stunning profile. Constructed in the late 16th century, it is a fortified tower that is a world heritage site with is Manueline style.

A walk in the park

Parks are an important component of the city’s infrastructure as well. Eduardo VII Park may not be Lisbon’s largest, but it is certainly one of its most fascinating. Occupying 26 hectares, the central lane of the park is an expansive green space and wide-open views. Monsanto Forest Park is over 1,000 hectares and offers numerous treks to enjoy with views of the city and the water.

Wine and dine

Portugal is known around the world for its cuisine and Lisbon is the best place to tantalize your tastebuds! Try real pastel de nata (Portuguese tarts) from local pastelarias, indulge on some of the Atlantic’s freshest seafood and sample the home grown wines and the sweet liquor ginginha. Get the total Portuguese experience in a Fado House, a type of restaurant that serves authentic Portuguese fare with a side of traditional guitar music.

Out to sea

Catch a ferry at Cacilhas to take you over the river to Almada, where you can see the Cristo-Rei, Portugal’s version of Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue. Hit the beach If you’re in search of idyllic beaches, you simply have to head a few miles up and down along the Atlantic coast. Costa da Caparica is easy to reach by bus, Ericeira is a beautiful coastal town popular with surfers, and Setubal is the best place to try and spot a few friendly dolphins.

Lisbon is a community that offers adventures for everyone. Make sure you bring a comfortable pair of shoes because you’ll find that once you start exploring here, you won’t want to stop.
