Kutaisi is one of Georgia’s largest cities and it offers visitors a stunning cityscape thanks to its location on the shores of the Rioni.

It’s also right in the foothills of the Imereti and is surrounded by a large deciduous forest that makes an Autumn visit to this community quite memorable indeed! Your Journey Begins With an 11^th Century Masterpiece

The Bagrati Cathedral has finally been rebuilt after sustaining heavy damage throughout the years, restoring it to its former 11^th century glory. It’s a masterpiece of medieval and modern architecture. You can’t miss this cathedral as it sits on top of Uk’imerioni Hill. The other Heritage Site, Gelati Monastery, has employed a number of philosophers, theologians, and scientist over time and it has even been referred to as the “Second Athos” because of the influence it has had in the region.

With more than 16k unique items on display, the Kutaisi State Historical Museum is a logical follow-up to your visit to the Heritage sites. There are a number of different glimpses of local heritage to see, ranging from archaeological finds to paleographical items and even a tour of the spiritual heritage of the country as a whole. Go for the guided tour if you want to get the full experience since many of the exhibits aren’t labeled at all.

If you happen to have a little extra time on your hands, make your way over to Shota Rustaveli Street to enjoy the David Kakabadze Fine Art Gallery. There are over 2,800 items that are on display and the gallery features are that dates to the 19^th century.

The Sights of Kutaisi Inspire Creativity

Kutaisi has a number of beautiful views and that includes being able to dine from one of the terraces of the Mirzaani Brewery. There are three floors of tables here with a selection of local cuisine that compliment the slightly bitter house beer in a rustic way. Get a house beer, enjoy the view, and make sure to order the cauliflower that is drizzled in walnut sauce if you need a snack.

If you’re looking for something that speaks to a lively good time instead of a relaxed atmosphere, then Europa is the place for you to be. It’s got live music most every night, has a full bar that compliments your  meals, and there are a number of murals that give life to the interior.
