Klodzko is a conundrum. Located in southern Poland, there are elements which seem to be taken from numerous cultures in the city. The historical monuments of the city are reminiscent of Prague.
The colorful buildings and residential sections are reminiscent of Amsterdam. The streets and general structure of the city are reminiscent of Berlin. When all these elements come together, Klodzko becomes a beautiful, unique city that is truly work exploring.
The beautiful Gothic Bridge, which takes you over the Mlynowka River, is the oldest of its type in the country. It may have been built in 1286. It connects the Old Town with the rest of the city. You’ll find several Baroque statues on the bridge which feature scenes from religious literature, much in the same way the Charles Bridge does.
As for the Old Town, the buildings date to the 16th century at the earliest. There is a certain neo-Renaissance feeling to this part of the city, with plenty of hidden gems to go find.
You can’t miss the towering Klodzko Fortress during your stay in the city. Built on the fortifications once placed in the area by ancient cultures, it is one of the largest defensive structures in the region. With underground tunnels, huge walls to explore, and plenty of older military equipment to examine, you’ll want to plan a full day to enjoy everything you can find here.
Have a meal in the quiet square in the Old Town. Get lost in the maze of bunkers at the fortress. Enjoy the sunshine. You’ll find that staying in Klodzko can easily have you lost for words.
