Visit Iran
The Islamic Republic of Iran offers visitors a unique chance to experience the Middle East. From the modern urban centers of Tehran to the beaches and scuba diving of Kish, you’ll find music, arts, and architecture are all offered in full abundance throughout this country.
Visiting Iran can be an interesting experience. It is a cash-only society thanks to the 30+ year old US embargo that has been in place. This means any Western credit cards will not work. No ATMs will accept Western cards either. One euro equals more than 10,000 rial as well, so getting the exchange rate is important. Prices are sometimes listed in toman as well, which is 10 rial, and there are no state-issued large bills.
Iran operates on three different calendars as well, including the Persian and Islamic calendar in addition to the standard European calendar. Visitors will also want to be aware of certain clothing protocols that are in place. Maybe one of the most unique aspects of a visit to Iran is that it is impossible to find a urinal anywhere.
It is a dry country as well, so no alcohol is allowed in public. European visitors tend to have more leeway than an American visitor for travel freedom, but most trips to Iran are planned tours that feature local guides. It is a friendly nation that may love its instant coffee in the morning, but also offers spectacular arts, culture, and vistas that will make you want to keep coming back for more.
