Visit Gierloz

Beautiful Gierloz is located in Northern Poland, just east of Ketrzyn and a short drive from Olsztyn. Before 1945, this community was part of Germany and was home to the Nazi military headquarters from 1941-1944. Many come here just to visit the bunker of Adolf Hitler, which has been dubbed “The Wolf’s Lair.”

The complex is one of many that can be found throughout Eastern Europe, but Hitler spent more than 800 total days at this one. In the Summer of 1944, the Nazi regime even began to reinforce and enlarge the complex.

Although it is ruins today, there are nearly 40 different sites to tour when visiting Gierloz. The buildings range from offices and personal homes to air-raid shelters, tea rooms, and vehicle garages.

It has been said that Hitler had a daily routine when living at Gierloz. He would take his dog for a walk, on his own, right away in the morning. He would then review the mail that had been received and then hold a daily situation briefing at midday. Lunch followed after and Hitler is said to have always at in the same seat.

Non-military needs were handled in the afternoon, followed by coffee, more briefings, dinner, and then a film shown at the cinema.
