Visit Eze
Located in France, Eze is one of those places where once you see it, you’ll never want to leave it. The views of the Mediterranean Sea are absolutely beautiful and the cobblestone streets that are lined with climbing vines of various colors is a charm that cannot be easily duplicated.
A hilltop community located on the Cote d’Azur, Eze is the place to visit when all the trappings of wealth or fame want to be avoided. If you want to enjoy France in a truly unique way, then prepare for a visit to Eze. Here are just a few of the ways that you could enjoy this community during your stay.
History Flows Freely In the Streets of Eze
As you approach Eze, you will undoubtedly see the great spire of a hilltop where the community is situated from afar. Some have called it an eagle’s nest or perch because of its location along a cliff that is over 400 meters in height. The Notre Dame de l’Assomption, an 18th century church, is the most prominent beacon on this spire. An Egyptian cross remains in the church, a tribute to the roots of the community.
If you don’t mind a good challenge, then be sure to enjoy the journey of the Nietzsche Path while in Eze. It takes you from the town to the sea and has many excellent views along the way. The path itself has plenty of loose materials mixed with concrete steps and mud, so make sure your footwear is up to the task. Take your time and plan for at least an hour coming down.
If you prefer to stay on top of the rocky headlands, then a visit to the Fort de la Revere is in order. This fortification offers visitors a full 360 panorama of the Mediterranean Sea and the Cote d’Azur. Viewpoints are available to help identify what is being seen. Make sure you bring your camera for this stop.
Art Galleries and Perfume Shops Abound in Eze
The streets of Eze are filled with many quaint shops that offer wares throughout the season. One of the more unique experiences while shopping in Eze can be found at the local Fragonard Perfumery. Offering tours of the facility and allowing everyone to see how the items are made, you’ll have the chance to sample the products at the end of the tour. The shop itself is well stocked with many Fragonard products for consideration as well. It’s the perfect place for gifts.
The Galimard Museum in Eze offers a similar experience, but in less of a commercial way. You’ll get to see several antique perfume bottles, presses that help to create the fragrances, and how a perfumer’s laboratory actually works. There is a shop attached to the museum for those who wish to purchase products. An added benefit is that the Galimard Museum is open every day, including Sundays and Holidays.
A visit to Eze is designed to relax you without the hustle and bustle of a typical resort community. If you like the idea of a low-key adventure in a beautiful French coastal community, then be sure to plan your visit to Eze today.
