Dakovo is a city that brings the heart and culture of Croatia to one and all. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, it feels like you’re in a fairy tale as you put on some comfortable shoes and begin to explore.
It is a wonderful destination for those who love horses. Not only can you visit the state stud farm that is located here, but you’re also within easy reach of the Ivandvor farms as well. You’ll get to encounter the horses in their pasture, visit with some in their stalls, and learn more about them in general terms. You can see performances from the local Spanish riding school and sometimes even be involved in a training session.
The Dakovo Cathedral is another masterpiece the city offers and is the most famous landmark of the city. Built in the late 1800s, you’ll find frescoes inside that depict scenes from the life of St. Peter and moments from the Old Testament. There is a landscaped park to tour as well near the Bishop’s palace. It took 4 years to build the cathedral, then 12 years to decorate the inside of it.
Near the Diocletan Palace is Strossmeyer Park. It tends to be quiet in the park, away from most of the primary tourism sites. That makes it a nice place to get away from the crowds, recharge your batteries, and get to know the city better. Relax by the central fountain or enjoy the large areas of green space.

Dakovacki vezovi
The central traditional event is called Dakovacki vezovi (Dakovo Embroidery). It is a folklore show of the regions Slavonia and Baranja that is organized yearly in the beginning of July, and it presents traditional folk costumes, folklore dancing and singing groups.
