Visit Czestochowa

Czestochowa is notable for its Pauline monasatery of Jasna Gora. This monasatery is the home of the Black Madonna. This icon of Virgin Mary has been attested as early as the 14^th century. It stands 4 feet in height and though its original composition is up for debate, millions of people come to Czestochowa just to see the icon.

There are several prominent museums in Czestochowa that are worth a tour as well. The Regional Museum, the oldest in the city, is located in the former town hall. It offers a look at the development of the city and contributions from local residents have provided since the 17^th century.

The House of Poetry is another fantastic museum that features the work of Halina Poswiatowska. It has been open since 2006 and various memorabilia, including photographs and documents, are on display. Visitors can also see scrips of some of her poetry. Reading events are sometimes scheduled during the evening.

The City Gallery of Art is another worthy stop, presenting modern art while hosting cultural events for the city. The Museum of Match Production is housed in the city’s former match factory and allows visitors to walk through the industry processes that were used to make matches.

Several festivals are held annually in the city as well. One of the best is the Night of Culture, where one fare allows visitors to attend all concerts, plays, and other performances that are prepared for that one night.
