Crikvenica with a population of 11.000 is situated near the city of Rijeka. Together with Dramalj, Selce and Jadranovo makes up the famous and attractive Crikvenica Rivieria, which offers many interesting facilities. All those who love active holidays and all those who want a relaxed and quiet holiday are welcome here.
Due to its proximity to Zagreb it is a favourite weekend retreat for many of Zagreb’s residents, and the kilometres of pebbly and sandy beaches that are joined together by a natural promenade make it extremely attractive for both international and national visitors.
The history of the city dates back to the Roman era where the site was a settlement and military base called Ad Turres. Crikvenica has a hundred-year-old tourist tradition since it is located in the Kvarner bay of the Adriatic Sea which is concidered to be the most beautiful part of the Croatin littoral.
Numerous historical monuments and remains testify about the turbulent past of Crickvenica and interesting church and medieval arcitecture can be found in the town such as the Pauline monastery, Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Antun church, Tos, which is an old mill used for processing olive oil.
If you want to go sightseeing in the surrounding area you can for example, on one-day trips visit Krk, Kosljun, Vrbnik, Klimno, Kacjak, and Biserujka cave on the island of Krk. During the year numerous happenings and festivals take place in Crickvenica.

What to see and do in Crikvenica ?
Among the attractions to tick off during your holidays in Crikvenica include the Pauline Monastery, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Town Museum of Crikvenica. Once you’ve achieved your history and culture fix, naturally your days should meander down towards the water. Around the water you’ll encounter many exciting bars and tantalising restaurants, while on and beside the water you can engage in many thrilling activities including water skiing, diving, swimming, beach volleyball and football. If you have a day to kill, think about visiting some of the nearby islands such as Krk, or make the short trip to the impressive port city of Rijeka for even more history.
Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
This is the oldest preserved church in Crikvenica. Along with the former Pauline monastery, it is an essential part of the historic town centre.
The church, built in 1412 by Nikola IV Frankopan, houses numerous valuable paintings and statues. One of these is the painting of St. Simon, the only preserved item from the old Parish Church of St. Simon and Judas Thaddeus.
Church of St. Anthony of Padua
The Church of St. Anthony of Padua was built based on the design of the architect Stjepan Rovešnjak and the sculptor Zvonko Car. The foundation stone for the church was laid in 1934, and the church was consecrated in 1939. The impressive bell tower is 35 metres high.
Russian Orthodox Church
The church was built in 1924 in the architectural style of Russian churches on the initiative of Russians who had escaped to Crikvenica after the October Revolution. It is dedicated to St. Nicholas and has a bell tower built next to it. The church was renovated in the 1980s, but has been closed for years.

Frankopan Days
At the end of June, Frankopan Days is an elaborate medieval fair with costumes, archery, traditional craft exhibitions, entertainers and musicians, all to evoke how people lived and partied in the Middle Ages.
Fisherman’s Week
Fisherman’s Week is a fun traditional festival that takes place at the end of August. Celebrating the town’s tradition of fishing, there are concerts, theatre, sports competitions and local food on offer.
