There is no skiing in Salzburg itself, but during the winter season it is one of the main arrival towns for ski tourists, as the infrastructure in Salzburg is adapted to cope with a large influx. If you’re looking for a quick skiing break in the Alps, a flight to Salzburg is a very good start.

The impressive castle of Hohensalzburg towers over the city, forming one of Salzburg’s most distinctive symbols. The fortress was originally built in the Middle Ages, but has been continually renovated and extended. Hohensalzburg is a very well-preserved castle, and the largest of its kind in Europe.

Salzburg is a beautiful city, with many old buildings in the baroque style. Besides giving Salzburg its unique medieval atmosphere, these buildings also provide a good impression of the kind of town that formed the backdrop for much of Mozart’s life and activity. Mozart actually composed more than 350 of his beautiful and memorable concertos, symphonies and sonatas in Salzburg.

The classic film musical ’The Sound of Music’ was largely shot in and around Salzburg, so with a visit to Salzburg, you’ll also have the opportunity to experience many of the film’s scenes and locations in reality.

Salzburg is convenient to Vienna, Munich and of course Austria’s many ski resorts, such as Zell-am-See, Ischgl, St. Anton and Kitzbühl.
