Čazma is a town with 2.800 inhabitants at the slopes of Moslavačka gora and next to the river Česma which runs to the east of Čazma. The town is one of the oldest towns in Croatia, first mentioned in 1094.
The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene is the only preserved monument of the early history of the city. It is a unique example of romanic architecture and experts equate its value with the Zagreb cathedral. The church organ made in 1767 are one of the most beautiful in Croatia.
On the foundations of a turbulent and brilliant history, Čazma evolved into the cultural, economic and tourist centre of the Moslavina microregion. Famous for intact natural surroundings and eco-agriculture, it is a heaven for recreation lovers, hunters and fishermen or simply those who appreciate natural beauties. The town is rich in cultural heritage and the people there cherish and foster old customs.
Rural tourism is especially interesting on the Salaj family estate which lights up like Bethlehem at Christmas and forms a real Christmas tale. Čazma is also widely known for one of the most beautiful sacral buildings in Croatia – the Church of Maria Magdalena, one of the few parish churches in Croatia with two towers, and for its galleries (Cetin, Marks, Matešin in Bojana).Meet our people and our regions and take home the most beautiful memories!
