Visit Boulogne-sur-Mer
Boulogne-sur-Mer in Pas-de-Calais is full of historical treasures. The city consists of two different parts. The upper city formed by the ramparts built between 1227 and 1231. Here are a number of notable buildings such as the Basilica overlooking the city. It was built in the 19th century on the ruins of a medieval cathedral. In addition to having the largest crypt in France, it contains a famous artifact: a relic of the sacred blood from the 14th century. You can also see the medieval bell tower, a UNESCO site, as well as the castle of the counts. The latter is particularly interesting as it is a good example of medieval architecture. The Imperial Palace was built in the late 18th century and is a mansion where Napoleon once resided.
The lower town consists of harbor. You will also find Europe’s largest aquarium: Nausicaá – National Center for Sea. There’s the magazine, the last military remnant of the Napoleonic era.
