Visit Borovets
Borovets, or Chamkoria as it was originally known, is a beautiful mountain resort community that is located on the northern slops of Rila. It’s just a short drive from Samokov and a day trip from Plovdiv or Sofia. Borovets is the oldest winter resort in Bulgaria, with a history dating to 1896. It was originally established as a community to be a place for hunting by the Bulgarian royalty, but its stunning location and access to the slopes helped a thriving skiing community begin to develop.
Over time, an entire network of lifts, ski runs, restaurants, bars, and world-class hotels grew to service those who loved getting out into the cold. Night skiing is available in Borovets as well, but the lift passes must be purchased separately at the kiosks on the pistes.
In addition to the downhill tracks that are available, you’ll find 35km of cross-country trails that are designed to FIS standards as an activity option during your stay. Two-person Ski-doos are available for rent at the local resorts. Ski jumping is held every Wednesday during the season and snowboarding instruction is also available.
Borovets tends to be a little quieter in the Summer, but it is still equally beautiful. Take a ride on horseback, explore the forest paths, or rent a mountain bike and explore dedicated cycling trails.
