Visit Bonaire

Bonaire is the least developed of the ABC islands. The primary attractions here are the coral-filled waters off the coast and the laidback ambiance of the island. A

bout 25 years ago, the local government designated much of the sea surrounding the island a marine park, preserving the reefs and beaches for the enjoyment of scuba divers and snorkelers.

You’ll find that the diving opportunities off Bonaire are some of the best in the world, giving you access to fantastic pristine reefs, shipwrecks, and colorful marine life.

Beyond the 60 official dive sites, Bonaire is also known as a top bird watching destination. Inside the sprawling Washington-Slagbaai National Park and throughout the island, over 200 species of exotic birds can regularly be spotted.

Bonaire’s salt mountains also cast an image that is a stark contrast to most tropical views.

It used to be: The Netherlands Antilles

The Netherlands Antilles are a unique group of islands in the Southern Caribbean, including the islands of Saba, Bonaire, and Sint Eustatius. They are considered separate from the other islands of the Dutch Caribbean from a legislative standpoint and an overseas region of the home country. Because of this incorporation, the barriers of travel to these beautiful islands are quite minimal.

During the period of 16th century colonization of the Americas, these islands were dismissed as being useless. They are quite the opposite.

The Netherlands Antilles may also include Aruba and Curacao, each which has its own unique benefits.

Best of Bonaire

This is a great outdoors adventure for everyone. If you want to take the day to fish, you will have to take a boat out on the waters. You cannot fish from the shores of the island. There are fishing charters that will take you out and supply the gear you need to hook the big one. Everyone enjoys a day on the waters surrounding Bonaire.

Scuba diving and snorkeling is awesome around the island. The beautiful reefs and alluring marine life makes these water activities great for the entire family. The thing you might not know about Bonaire is that they protect the marine life in the waters off the island, so you will see and explore underwater reef and marine life that is untouched by any commercial aspects. The waters are so clear because there is little rainfall. You can expect warm dry temperatures and weather conditions, which makes your holidays to Bonaire even more special. If you find water activities fun you will enjoy windsurfing.

The beaches are sandy with a bit of grit because of the coral reefs. However, the windsurfing around the beaches is fantastic. A favorite place to try your hand at windsurfing is by Lac Bay Beach. If you want solitude, go to the beach cut out of limestone cliffs. The 1000 Steps Beach is so quiet and peaceful, you will have a great day relaxing and enjoying the day on a white sandy beach. If you want to see some black sand, go to Boca Cocolishi. You will find your days filled with plenty of sun and fun.

If you take the time to talk to some of the locals, they will tell you stories and you are going to enjoy hearing the tales. The nice thing about the vacation will be the scenery, things to do and the fun times at night after a superb meal at one of the fine restaurants.
