Visit Baska Voda
Baska Voda brings the personality of Croatia to life. This small community sits on the Adriatic coastline and is just a few miles northwest of Makarska.
It was settled in ancient times because of a freshwater spring that was present, creating the need to build a military presence in the area.
A tour of the surrounding mountains reveals burial sites filled with large urns of artifacts. Jewelry, coins, and lamps have been recovered from the area. Various headstones have been recovered as well, including tributes to children who were lost in local shipwrecks.
Staying in Baska Voda takes you away from the bustle of tourism that you’ll find at other Croatian resorts. Although there isn’t a large beach in the community, you do have access to a beautiful harbor and plenty of outdoor adventures that lie just beyond the border of the city. Mountain air, tinged with the scent of pine, mixes with the saltwater breeze to create an invigorating experience.
The waters along the coast are gentle and perfect for families and swimming. Water sports are available as well. For the adventurous, there are also ruins from the 1st century AD that can be found in the area, with Dalmatian artifacts present in the exhibits of several local museums.
Baska Voda can become busy during the high season, which can limit beach access when the tides are in, but it is generally a quiet and peaceful place where you can plan your own adventure. Make your way here and begin to explore the best of what Croatia can offer.
Baska Voda Beach has a Blue Flag status, so is perfect for families wanting to unwind in the sun without having to worry about the children; its waters are clean and shallow, great for paddling. Find a hub of activity by the seafront, with beach bars such as Apollo keeping you refreshed throughout the day, without moving from your lounger.
Enjoy an endless range of activity in the summer, with the various hotels offering a wealth of facilities, as well as the Poseidon diving school catering to all ages. For a change of scene, take a stroll to one of the smaller, more traditional villages such as Bratus, or take boat trips to the islands of Hvar and Brac.
The wide variety of restaurants and cafés in Baska Voda make it great for families eating out with children, especially fussy eaters. Treat the kids to the delectable desserts at King Restaurant while you tuck into its Mediterranean specialities. Meanwhile the friendly service welcomes young ones both day and night, so you can enjoy a few drinks into the evening while spending time with the kids and keeping them entertained.
