Visit Aubagne

Aubagne is a city located 17 kilometers east of Marseille in the south of France. The French Foreign Legion has its headquarters there. It is located in the Huveaune Valley and surrounded by the Garlaban and Sainte-Baume mountain ranges to the north and Douard to the south.

Aubagne, the birthplace of Marcel Pagnol, in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône, must be discovered, alone or with a guide, for its cultural heritage. An old medieval town surrounded by violence in the 16th century. The Mediterranean city reveals its typical charm behind its colorful facades, its mansions with periodic architecture, its gates and door knockers, etc. The old city has many monuments such as Porte Gachiou, Saint-Sauveur church, bell tower, Observance triangular bell tower and chapel.

Aubagne is also a tourist destination famous for pottery. Santon manufacturers and potters open the doors to their workshop to let you discover their creations: santons, porcelain, earthenware and decorations

Let yourself be tempted by the local and regional specialties that you will be able to discover on market days: cheese, nougat, olive oil, honey, etc. Various events are held throughout the year, such as the Journées corses d’Aubagne (“Aubagne Corsican” Days) ), Aubagne International Film Festival, ART’M Festival, Flamenco Nights

The French Foreign Legion Museum traces the legionary history from 1831 to the present day. Various objects are exhibited and evoke the great epic of the Foreign Legion: distant expeditions, works, fights, etc. You will discover the story of the men who served France, their weapons, their uniforms, their trophies, etc. Salle d’Honneur pays tribute to the founders of the Legion: King Louis Philippe and General Rollet.

The 714-meter Garlaban Rock overlooks the city of Aubagne and the Huveaune Valley. The massif is a playground for hiking enthusiasts. Between garrigue and limestone, various tribes have inhabited the caves of the massifs. Garlaban consists of several peaks, including Taoumé, home of the Grosibou Cave,
