Say Hello to Napoleon As You Pass By
Although Napoleon is not always the most beloved figure in history, the leader to create some historic moments in France’s history. At the Naval Museum of Napoleon, you’ll be able to see the highlights of his reign over the country in a 17th century stone tower and fort. There are a number of paintings on display, naval models to browse, and you can even see one of the famous hats that he used to wear. Sorry folks – you’re not allowed to wear it!
While you’re at the fortress, make some extra time to take in the Archeology Museum as well. Not only are the vistas of the mountains and sea that you’ll see incredible and breathtaking, but the collection of classic Antibes artifacts is quite interesting. A number of items have been recovered from local digs and shipwrecks and placed on display here.
A final stop at the Picasso Museum is absolutely worth the time. There are 24 paintings on display by this famous artist, 11 oils on paper, about 80 ceramic pieces, two sculptures, and over 3 dozen different drawings. It’s one of the world’s largest dedicated collections and is the perfect stop should the weather not cooperate with you while you’re in Antibes.
Antibes Has Some Beautiful Parks to Enjoy
Although beaches dominate the itinerary of a visit to Antibes, the various parks that are available to the public cannot be ignored. The Exflora Park might just be the best of them all. Over 12 acres in size, it offers a number of different garden designs that include ancient Roman designs, a large olive grove, and plenty of fountains. If you love a quiet stroll on a nice day, then this is the place that you’re going to want to be.
A secondary option is the Eilenroc Gardens, which was created out of a virtual desert. The center of the location is the Villa Eilenroc, which was literally built on a rock in the middle of the sand. It’s now 27 acres of lush landscaping that offers a full view of the bay. When in season, the scents of thyme, rosemary, and lavender all fill the air in a wonderful aromatic bouquet.
